Culprit Behind Recent Suspicious Murders Commits Suicide

TEHRAN -- Head of the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Niazi here Sunday announced names of four agents involved in the recent suspicious murders in the country. Hojjatoleslam Niazi told IRNA that on the basis of investigations conducted so far, the main agents are Mostafa Kazemi, Mehrdad Alikhani, Khosrow Barati and Saeed Emami. He further added that some of those arrested are from among intelligence forces while others are engaged in business.

However, said Hojjatoleslam Niazi, despite of being under special care, one of the main agents, Saeed Emami, committed suicide on Saturday by taking in depilatory substance while taking a bath. Emami was immediately rushed to a specialized hospital but medical treatment failed to prove effective on him, said Hojjatoleslam Niazi. He said Saeed Emami was one of the key agents in the case, adding that in view of the documents available and his confessions, Emami would have been sentenced to death if he had stood trial with regard to his charges.

Hojjatoleslam Niazi said that the widespread dimensions of the recent suspicious murders have not been completed yet, adding that investigations and explicit confessions have pushed forward one basic stage in the case. He said the motive for designers of the murders was to face the system with problems at international and local scenes and engage senior officials of the system and the government with such issues.

Hojjatoleslam Niazi termed the case very complicated and said those who deal with judicial tasks know well that investigations over ordinary murder cases will last long, let alone such cases which are highly complicated. Hojjatoleslam Niazi further added that the condition of the accused of the case and those who were intelligent forces made investigations difficult and complicated. But, he added, judicial stages and investigation process proceeded successfully.

He said in the course of probe into the case, extensive investigations were carried out and various people were prosecuted which shed further light to some points of the issue. Hojjatoleslam Niazi expressed the hope that with the continuation of investigations and careful probe into the case, various aspects of the crimes become clear as well. The head of the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces further remarked that so far 23 accused have been prosecuted, some of whom have been released on bail, adding that 33 others are also involved in the case as informed persons and witnesses.

Niazi further announced that three other persons have been arrested recently in the course of investigations, adding that the result will be announced subsequently. In response to a question on investigations over charges of General Gholamreza Naqdi, Commander of Intelligence Security of the Law Enforcement Forces, Hojjatoleslam Niazi said given the importance and sensitivity of the case, further clarification of the issue is of prime importance for the system and high-ranking officials.

Head of the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces called on the press to continue their cooperation with the court in order to let proper investigations over the case. Hojjatoleslam Niazi said investigation over General Naqdi's case is in its final stage, adding that the verdict will be announced in coming days. (IRNA)
